about abc reconnect

In Sydney we formed a not-for-profit association to manage the ABN2 50th reunion. Although this association has been terminated, members are carrying on to help form abc.reconnect. John Newsom has agreed to continue as “chair” while Les Simmonds will mastermind this website. Other names will appear in lights from time to time. We know of regular gatherings of former staff in Sydney from time to time.

In Melbourne a committee was formed to manage the 50th. Carol Simpson-Bull will continue the contact with abc.reconnect while Ric Hunter will help coordinate the website. Again, other accomplices will appear from time to time. The ABC Melbourne Reunion Club, for one, can link with this website.

Before too long we will be looking for people to take up the baton for each of the BAPH States. We have a good idea who some of these might be already.

It is quite likely that other clusters will emerge. For example, Bob Wurth is the hub of the News/Current Affairs/Overseas Correspondents network and we have advance information that a Willie Phua 80th “big bash” is being organised for this group early in 2008.

what will we do

This website will have a bulletin board for all sorts of ABC reunions, big or small. If you are organising an open (or closed) event, you can email us at abc.reconnect and we will let the networks know.

If you have a news item or a burning issue we can run them for you. We will open a forum where you can exchange opinions. (This will not be edited or censored but ABC guidelines will apply.)

We will be able to arrange a permanent link for you or your group via this website.

We are building an abc historic photo gallery. At the beginning of 2007 we already had 191 images with more coming in. You can add your own memorabilia to this collection.

The graphics gallery is growing and had over 100 images by January 2007.

And more as the site develops. Sample pages follow.
